When you think of Dwight Yorke, many picture him in the red of Manchester United, arms wide after scoring in the Treble season. But before the trophies at Old Trafford, Yorke was Aston Villa’s number 10, smiling, lethal in front of goal, and part of one of the Premier League’s most feared strike partnerships.
The 1995/96 home shirt, made by Reebok, is pure 90s nostalgia. Claret body, sky blue sleeves and collar, yellow Reebok logo, and the bold white AST Computer sponsor. But this kit is more than style. It is about a season that defined Yorke’s rise and Villa’s strength in the mid 90s.
In our latest Kitdrop video on YouTube, we take a closer look at this unforgettable shirt and Yorke’s breakout season. You can watch the full version now on our channel.

A Season Where Everything Clicked
For Yorke, 1995/96 was a turning point. Having started his Villa career out wide, this was the season he became a true centre forward. At just 23, his pace, technique, and composure in front of goal made him unplayable.
Paired with Savo Milošević, Villa had one of the deadliest strike duos in the league. Yorke’s movement and finishing combined perfectly with Milošević’s physicality and link up play. Between them, they scored over 40 goals in all competitions.
Silverware and Near Misses
Under Brian Little, Villa were a team to be reckoned with. They finished fourth in the Premier League, securing European football for the following season.
They lifted the League Cup with a dominant 3–0 win over Leeds United at Wembley, Yorke stretching defences and creating chances throughout. They also reached the FA Cup semi final, narrowly missing out on a domestic cup double.
It was one of Villa’s strongest seasons of the decade, and this shirt was at the heart of it.
A Villa Side with Identity
This was not just about Yorke. Villa’s 90s core was stacked with talent and character. Gareth Southgate organising the back line, Ugo Ehiogu as the enforcer, Mark Draper pulling the strings in midfield, and Ian Taylor bringing energy from box to box.
At Villa Park they were confident, fearless, and dangerous. This shirt became the armour of a side respected across the league.

The Departure That Shocked Villa Fans
Yorke would stay at Villa for three more seasons, continuing to deliver goals and big performances. But in the summer of 1998, Manchester United came calling.
Villa fans were gutted to see him go, a feeling summed up in John Gregory’s famous press conference, where he said if he had a gun he would have shot him. It was raw emotion from a manager who knew exactly what Yorke meant to the club.
At United, Yorke would go on to win the Treble in his first season, but his story began right here in claret and blue.
